Vegan English Scones Recipe

Updated: Oct 9, 2022

Today we are making Vegan English or British Scones, the scones are crumbly, scrumptious, and one of the best things ever served with jam and cream or even just jam by itself. I am going to show you how easy it is to prepare these just within a few minutes.

Ingredients for the Vegan Scones

All Purpose Flour - 300 Grams

Baking Powder - 2 Teaspoons

Salt - Half Teaspoon

Vegan Butter - 150 Grams

Plant Based Milk - 125 ml

Vanilla Extract - 1 Teaspoon

Lime Juice - 2 Tablespoon

Plant based milk as needed for brushing the scones

Jam as needed

Vegan butter as needed

Step 1

We will start with the preparation of the dough

Take around 300 grams of all purpose flour, take 2 teaspoons of baking powder, half teaspoon of salt, mix all the dry ingredients well.

Take around 150 grams of cold vegan butter, combine the butter with the dry ingredients. This is a very important step, once it is done, add 125 ml of plant based milk, I am using Soy you can use any plant based milk of your choice.

Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 2 tablespoons of lime juice, Combine everything well. Once everything is well combined, you can knead a little but it's not needed.

Step 2

Roll the Dough out

Add dry flour, to a plain surface, place the dough and press it out to make sure all the air is out. You can choose the width of the dough as per the scone size, completely your choice.

You can use the cutter or you can any glass of appropriate size to make the scones.

Just press the glass in the dough to make the round scones.

Step 3

Brush the baking tray with a little oil, then place the scones on the baking tray with some distance between each other.

Then brush the scones with plant based milk. Then bake for 15-20 minutes, over 220 C or till they get nice golden.

The best combination is with vegan butter or cream and jam, they go really well with tea. British scones are more dense, slightly drier, and more crumbly than biscuits. They’re fabulous to have for teatime, as a dessert or even for breakfast.
